Sunday High Mass is said here in the extraordinary form (ie Tridentine). It's worth writing home about. The Church itself would be monumental in any other city, but in Rome it is really just another "nice" church with some very famous works of art. You can see great pictures of it here: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiesa_della_Santissima_Trinit%C3%A0_dei_Pellegrini_%28Roma%29.
The Mass itself is extraordinary in both senses of the word. It is incredibly well done (thanks to the Fraternity of St. Peter who run the parish). The choir is stupendous. It is a small ensemble of only about ten or so voices, but stunning. Anyone visiting Rome must at least have one Sunday Mass at Trinita. On feast days like last Sunday (All Saints) they not only have the choir, but a chamber orchestra. With the acoustics its like being in the presence of angels!
After Mass there is lots of hobnobbing, and always someone or two new to meet. A Cardinal said Mass on All Saints - he is the newly appointed head of Liturgy, and was introduced all around.
Then the lunch crowd (that's me) go off for lunch at the usual spot, though I am not quite sure where the usual spot is. I just follow along.
It really makes for a wonderful Sunday.
Cool, thanks for the tip. We should get married there.
